Bridges draws on the support of community resources and families to bring together young people and employers.
When I first met Lomy, my Bridges Employer Representative, she asked me about my previous work experience. I told her that I had really enjoyed volunteering at a restaurant, bussing tables and assisting customers.
Lomy then helped me through the application process for a dining service position at the Riderwood Senior Living facility in my community. I was hired to prepare each table for lunch.
I was very excited at this opportunity. I came to work early every day and volunteered to stay as late as I was needed. My employer told me that he liked my initiative, and that guests appreciated my friendliness.
Soon my responsibilities grew. Now I set up, show guests to their tables, and have been promoted to assistant server. My hours have nearly doubled, and I have applied to begin my studies at Montgomery College in the fall.
Lomy has been there to help me every step of the way.
